How to get from Gimpo International Airport (GMP) to your hotel
Compare prices and travel times for the best transfer options to Seoul
Gimpo International Airport (GMP) is Seoul's second airport, located significantly closer to the city center than Incheon. It handles most domestic flights (including the popular route to Jeju) and short-haul international shuttles to Tokyo (Haneda), Osaka, Taipei, and Shanghai. Because of its proximity to downtown Seoul, travel times are short and transport options are abundant, including three rail lines and extensive bus networks.
Want the easiest arrival from Gimpo International Airport?
Pre-booking a private airport transfer works best when you arrive late, have lots of luggage, or just want a driver waiting at arrivals instead of comparing taxis and rideshare lines.
AREX (All Stop Train)
The Airport Railroad Express (AREX) 'All Stop' train connects Gimpo Airport to Seoul Station in about 22 minutes. Note that the AREX 'Express' train does NOT stop at Gimpo; you must take the 'All Stop' commuter train. It is fast, punctual, and connects directly to the Seoul Subway network at Hongik Univ., Gongdeok, and Seoul Station.
Pros
- Fastest reliable link to Seoul Station (22 mins).
- Cheapest option (approx. 1,450 KRW).
- No traffic delays.
Cons
- Can be very crowded during rush hour.
- No reserved seating (commuter style).
- Express train does not stop here.

Subway (Line 5 & 9)
In addition to AREX, Gimpo is served by Subway Line 5 (Purple) and Line 9 (Gold). Line 5 is great for reaching Gwanghwamun and Dongdaemun. Line 9 is crucial for Gangnam and offers an 'Express' service (skips smaller stops) which is highly recommended for speed. The station is located on the basement level, connected to both International and Domestic terminals.
Pros
- Direct access to Gangnam (Line 9) & Gwanghwamun (Line 5).
- Very frequent departures.
- Integrated transfer system with city buses.
Cons
- Line 9 Express is notoriously crowded ('Hell Train').
- Navigating the massive subway map can be confusing for first-timers.
- Long walks for transfers at some stations.
Taxi
Taxis are available from organized stands curbside. A ride to Myeongdong or Seoul Station takes only 20-30 minutes in light traffic, costing approximately 30,000-40,000 KRW. 'International Taxis' (orange or with sign) have English-speaking drivers but charge a flat rate or slightly higher meter fare. Black 'Deluxe' taxis are more comfortable but more expensive.
Pros
- Direct door-to-door service.
- Much faster than from Incheon.
- Available 24/7.
Cons
- Significantly more expensive than the subway.
- Subject to Seoul's heavy traffic jams.
- Night surcharge (20-40%) applies late at night.
