Harare's Robert Mugabe International Airport sells passes for seven lounges, all in international departures and all after passport control. Every one serves hot food with beer and wine, and passes cost about $22 to $35 for 3 hours. The main differences are opening hours, showers and how old children can be to enter free.

After security, turn left and take the escalator down to Level 0; the lounge is on the left between Gates 1 and 2. Open 24 hours daily, with hot and cold food, vegetarian options, beer and wine, Wi-Fi and a baby care room. About $32 for a 3-hour pass.

After passport control and security, go past the duty-free shops and turn left; the lounge is on the left by Gate 11. After immigration, turn left; the lounge is opposite Gate 2 on Level 0. Open 04:00 to 02:00 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and 06:00 to 19:00 on other days. After passport control, turn right after duty free and follow signs to Cafe Nush; take the stairs just before it to the lower level, opposite Gate 8. Open 24 hours on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday, and 04:00 to 19:00 on other days. Hot and cold food, halal and vegetarian options, beer and wine, a family room and a kids' play area. About $24 for a 3-hour pass, and children under 5 enter free.

Tip:Evening departures.Several HRE lounges close at 19:00 or 20:00. For an evening or overnight flight, the Premium Luxury Lounge (24 hours) and Khami (until 02:00) are the safe choices, as is Vhakacha on the days it opens around the clock.
